Stars James Stewart as Tom Jeffords, an ex-army scout with a conscience who embarks on a one-man peace mission with the Apaches following ten years of war between settlers and Indians. Forming a diplomatic partnership with righteous Apache leader Cochise (Jeff Chandler, in a formidable), Jeffords later falls in love with an Indian girl who he marries in an Apache ceremony. He then brokers a three month truce with Cochise that is broken by renegade settler attacks before a lasting peace treaty is renewed. (Umbrella Entertainment)

James Stewart is simply such a great actor that you'll believe in him even as a guy trying to broker peace between the whites and the Apache. The script may be somewhat cliché by today's standards, with non-Native Americans playing Native Americans, but it still carries a message and, most importantly, features a great hero in the lead role whom I enjoyed watching, and it didn't offend me in the slightest.
