The Simpsons (1989) (series)

English A cult series which has sadly started consuming itself with each new season in recent years.

The Dark Knight (2008)

English The Dark Knight is really unique, exceptional, and perfect beyond doubt. After having seen it at least fifteen times, it is still as captivating, and it will remain one of my lifetime favorites. When Christopher Nolan took over the nearly ruined DC Comics legend from Schumacher, the Warner Bros. probably had no idea what Nolan would do for the Batman franchise. In 2005, he established a solid basis in Batman Begins, and used its potential to the fullest in TDK. With a bigger budget, he created a thriller where action gets going in the very first minute and doesn’t let up until the final credits roll. The plot is uncompromising, without any dull moments, with Zimmer’s breathtaking music, Heath Ledger's iconic acting performance, excellent one-liners, great stories (“We burned the forest down.”) and especially the Nolan brothers' screenplay, which, for a commercial blockbuster, is incredibly sophisticated. What to add at the end? Perhaps my favorite scenes: Joker’s interrogation at the police station (with absolutely brilliant music), Joker meeting the Mob (“And I thought my jokes were bad.”) and Joker’s departure from the hospital. Now that I think about it, there’s no point highlighting particular scenes, because TDK just doesn’t have a single weak moment that would allow me to take my eyes off the movie. A lifetime favorite!

Walk on the Wild Side (2009) (series)

English Another nice BBC documentary, but I recommend switching the sound off, because those idiotic dialogues reduce the rating by more than a half. 2 stars.

Nicky's Family (2011)

English Nicholas Winton was a man of great heart and courage, and such people are few and far between. The documentary is really good, and it makes you wonder why Barack Obama received the Nobel Prize, and Winton didn’t. It’s beyond me. Hopefully, Nicholas Winton will live to see that day.

Avatar (2009)

English Well, I’ll be brief. A movie with absolutely perfect special effects that are well worth 5 stars. But everything else is really poor and especially the story is a piece of crap for a maximum 1 star and it’s boring beyond belief. I consider this a huge waste of the potential that Cameron had at his disposal. One of the TOP movies for most people, but count me out. 3 stars.

The Wave (2008)

English A great movie about the fact that a well-intentioned idea in the hands of well-intentioned people can go beyond the imaginable. The uneasy feeling from all this is amplified by the fact that the story itself takes place in Germany, and we all know how far this was taken by the Germans. However, it's not about the nation but about the people. You just need to find the right ones and it turns into a problem from which it's hard to find a way back. WW2 was supposed to be a lesson for everyone, and this movie shows on a smaller scale that there are still people with the right idea for the right people. 4 stars.

How It's Made (1999) (series)

English When there's really nothing on TV, here's one of the best series on the Discovery Channel, and sometimes it's more interesting than you’d think.

Brainiac: Science Abuse (2003) (series)

English A pretty zany show about science made in a more fun way, with the slogan: “Brainiac: the show that laughs in the face of science.” It’s true that I often watch this just for the microwave and caravan explosions, but still, 4 stars.
