Crime-caper by Steven Spielberg, based on the true story of Frank W. Abagnale Junior. As a teenager, Abagnale (Leonardo DiCaprio) discovers he has a talent for impersonating officials, beginning with posing as a substitute teacher. Finding solace in his new gift - his mother leaves his father (Christopher Walken) after she discovers he is heavily in debt to the IRS - Abagnale goes on to impersonate airline pilots, doctors and even a lawyer, whilst also managing to con banks out of over $2 million. However, his escapades soon attract the interest of FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) who seems to be always one step behind. That is until Abagnale decides to settle down and discovers that his future father-in-law (Martin Sheen) is the D.A of New Orleans. The real Abagnale appears in a cameo and, after serving time in prison, now works as a consultant for preventing forgery and fraud. (Paramount Pictures AU)

A three man show of the director, the composer and the actor. Spielberg didn't mess up his return to the comedy genre (though - is it even a comedy?) this time, and John Williams, who has been showing deep stagnation lately, scored big. And lastly, does anyone else still doubt that Leo DiCaprio is a great actor? ()
Catch Me If You Can is a very pleasant movie to relax with whose biggest positive is that, unlike Minority Report, it does not contain a single misstep for which it could be faulted. Written and directed with sensitivity and elegance, with a great balance between humour and drama. But the stars of the film are not Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, but the amazing Christopher Walken and Steven Spielberg. ()
You can see that once Spielberg sheds the weight of the heavy subject matter he usually has to comment on with sufficient deference, his seat loosens considerably and he finally starts to fully devote himself to the parameters through which he more or less made his name, namely choreography, set design, and the rhythm of the plot. You can feel the release and inner calm in every scene of this film, with Kaminski's years of experience with Spielberg naturally inscribed into it, so that any shot that passes here sort of casually wouldn't be something most filmmakers couldn’t put together in a lifetime or would build a film around. I deserve a slap for being so skeptical about this film. Catch Me If You Can immediately flies into the top talky films. The realistic story, the quality acting duo of Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg's drive, the solid pacing and the laugh-out-loud situations made for an amazing cinematic experience where I was truly chained to my chair. The way DiCaprio made money and manipulated people was heartwarming and shocking. Great! 100% ()
This purely recreational but extremely enjoyable and carefully scripted and directed retro comedy about the reform of a crafty swindler maintains its pace throughout and practically has no weak spots. It's a fresh piece based on well-executed comedic situations and the charisma of the acting trio of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, and Christopher Walken. I sincerely envied Frank for his personal charm... It's one of those rare comedies that can appeal to most audiences without resorting to cheap jokes. Overall impression: 90%. ()
