English "A wise horse once told me that a mustang spirit can never be broken." Black Beauty from 1994 was one of my first films on original VHS and I still consider it one of the most beautiful and powerful animal films. So in terms of plot this remake was nothing new to me, though they moved the film to the present day and replaced "boy with a stallion" with "girl with a mare". At first, this new adaptation reminded me a lot of the German film Windstorm, which I got to by chance two years ago. Even though the Disney version falls short of the 90's classic, it is still a powerful story about the pure relationship between animal and man and about animal and human nature in general. I found the 90’s to be more layered in feeling, and I also liked that it was set in the 19th century. The new film noticeably mirrors current trends, but that didn't hurt, it still has its charm and allure. Plus, how could I resist Kate Winslet's lovely voice. ()
