Robert Downey Jr. electrifies as the man who could talk to animals: Dolittle. After losing his wife, he hermits himself away behind the high wall of his manor, but is forced to set sail on an epic adventure when the queen falls gravely ill. Helping Dolittle in search of a rare cure are his rambunctious animal friends - including Chee-Chee (Rami Malek), an anxious, self-conscious gorilla; Dab-Dab (Octavia Spencer), an enthusiastic but birdbrained duck; the bickering duo of cynical, neurotic ostrich Plimpton (Kumail Nanjiani) and chilly-but-chill polar bear Yoshi (John Cena); as well as a headstrong parrot named Polynesia (Emma Thompson). English An average kids’ movie with a high standard of special effects. I can’t understand why Downey decided to make a film like this. He isn’t suited to such acting malarkey and the only thing that could explain it would be that his kids are huge Dolittle fans. However, there are a lot of WTF scenes that make it worth watching. One of the weirdest such scenes is the one where they pull bagpipes out of a dragon’s ass. ()

English This, if it doesn't entertain the kids, then I don't know what they were aiming for. A terrible piece of crap, where I would love to be there when they were filming it because it must have looked insanely absurd. It is obvious here, more than anywhere else, that all the animals are digital and the actors on the scene behave as if they were let out of a madhouse. ()

English Tony Stark's journey came to a close after Avengers: Endgame, so he thought he’d spend some time with animals of various species and sizes to chat with and treat them in his own way. I’m a sucker for computer-generated animals after the new Lion King, and especially after Life of Pi, so I have to point out that in the case of Dolittle, they could have tried a little harder. Aside from that, I found the humour a bit muddled, it was a blatantly childish, black, and even slightly fecal. On the other hand, this is a mostly easygoing film that passes by in the cinema, pleasantly amusing and surprising at times, but definitely don't expect any deeper story. The bonus point at the end was the title song "Original" by Sia. ()
