What if your life depended on a stranger? After an incoming storm forces the cancellation of her flight to New York, talented photojournalist Alex Martin (Kate Winslet) finds herself stuck in Idaho the night before her wedding. Scrambling to make it home in time, she hits upon a longshot idea and charters a plane to Denver in the hopes of catching the red-eye to New York that same night. Another stranded passenger, Ben Bass (Idris Elba), a skilled British neurosurgeon due back on the East Coast to perform a critical, life-saving operation, tunes out his own misgivings about the plan and joins her. As Alex and Ben fly ahead of inclement weather in a small Piper two-seater, their pilot (Beau Bridges) suffers a massive stroke, and the small craft crashes in the deep snows of the Uinta Mountains in north-eastern Utah. Trapped in the remote region with little hope of rescue, the two weary travellers embark on a terrifying and transformative pilgrimage across the unforgiving reaches of the vast, rugged terrain, fighting against the elements, animals and time. Under the most extreme circumstances imaginable, they gradually learn to trust one another, and a powerful connection grows between them - one that will reshape the course of their lives. English There’s already been quite enough plane crashes into American mountains in Hollywood. But when you add a high-quality filmmaking craft to the premise, it can’t be disappointing. Even though it’s only a three-star (therefore mediocre) movie, the overall impression isn’t bad at all. The camera work offers some gorgeous shots of the Canadian Panorama Mountain Village and the acting is worth it, too. ()

English Based on a not-so-simple love story, The Mountain Between Us is a very nice romance with effective chemistry between the main duo, Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are great. The ending was okay, but I would have preferred something less sweet. ()

English I liked the fact that the survival part is not unnecessarily filmed like an action film, but instead it is a rather contemplative film with a slow pace. However, then it came to the finale and I thought that it was actually screwed up, that it was all because of the bad last part, and I think that's a real shame. ()

English I was quite surprised by this film. Idris Elba and Kate Winslet are both excellent and they fit together nicely. The film has a few suspenseful moments, keeps the pace, has an unobtrusive romantic line and you sympathize with the main characters. It may have lacked a little something I haven't seen before in this genre to make me rate it higher, but otherwise I had a good time. 70% ()

English While the film had its bright moments, they were outweighed by boredom, plot nonsense (the flawless emergency landing of a practically dead pilot) and a totally mind-numbing ending. Not that I want to underestimate Idris Elba's parameters, but The Mountain Between Us? Come on. I got over the title eventually, but the two survivors deeply disappointed me by leaving the pilot for later, but completely ignoring him afterwards, and then constantly lamenting over the lack of food. I was appalled by the highly unsanitary scene in the cabin, and I was incredibly happy that the screen cannot transmit odor along with picture and sound. I also didn't understand why those two kept acting like it was freezing cold, when it turned out that the ice on the lake was pretty damn thin. I’d rather not comment on the ending. Anyway, the scenery was breathtaking. ()
