iZombie (2015)

English The series rips off Pushing Daisies with slight modifications, but the quality is of a good standard. I started watching it to have fun and not to ponder deep existential questions. Surprisingly, it worked. I got a well-made show that made me laugh, so I'm almost completely satisfied. When I compare my expectations with what I got, I should give it five stars, but I'm taking one down for the unoriginal premise and for the character of Major Lilywhite, who gave me a slight nervous tic. The character I liked, on the other hand, was definitely Mr. Boss, he was perfect. ()

Season 3 (2017) (S03)

English I was slightly disappointed with Season 3. The humor seemed substantially reduced, it was too much about heartbreaking memories of past relationships and the whole thing felt somewhat tiresome. Whenever the creators tried to make an action drama out of the show, I was getting bored. Then again, the last two episodes were actually a success in this regard. It's a shame that it didn’t happen sooner, the rating could have been better. ()

Heaven Just Got a Little Smoother (2017) (S03E01)

English At first, I was excited that the shift in storytelling style might give the series a fresh boost. However, by the end of the first third, I started to feel like the creators might be struggling with this new direction. On the plus side, the subplot with Vivian and her city of the undead was intriguing. But, unfortunately, the execution didn't quite hit the mark for me. The original format, with standalone episodes connected by an overarching story, seemed more digestible. ()

Zombie Knows Best (2017) (S03E02)

English The creators returned to their original formula, and I immediately enjoyed it more. This style of storytelling works much better. For the first time, I found Major amusing — normally, he’s not my favorite, but as a fifteen-year-old skater, he was fantastic. ()

Eat, Pray, Liv (2017) (S03E03)

English Definitely the weakest episode so far. It didn’t grab my attention at all, and I found myself seriously bored at times. I usually enjoy the show as a light, fun watch that makes me laugh now and then, but this episode had no laughs and was so slow that I almost fell asleep. ()

Wag the Tongue Slowly (2017) (S03E04)

English An improvement over the last episode, but now there’s a new issue. I’ve disliked Major Lilywhite from the start, but now even Ravi, who used to be my favorite character, is starting to annoy me. If this trend continues, my rating for the show might drop significantly. ()

Spanking the Zombie (2017) (S03E05)

English Finally, the creators remembered that this show used to be fun, and they managed to bring back some humor. They just played it too safe with the dominatrix theme — they could have done so much more with it. The highlight, though, was definitely the lawyer's interrogation scene; that had me in stitches. ()

Dirt Nap Time (2017) (S03E07)

English A pretty average episode. If I had to see one more sock puppet, I would have docked a star. The only moment that genuinely caught my attention was the shot of the murdered teacher, which reminded me of Pinhead, my favorite character from Hellraiser. ()

Return of the Dead Guy (2017) (S03E10)

English Two things really bothered me. First, the return of Drake, even as a hallucination, felt like a cheap shot at pulling on the heartstrings of hopeless romantics. There didn't seem to be any other reason for his reappearance. Second, the soundtrack has been a letdown for a while, but the cover of the Cranberries' "Zombie" was just too much for me. ()

Conspiracy Weary (2017) (S03E11)

English This episode really hooked me with the brain snack shared among three characters. The paranoid debates were spot-on, and with all the revelations happening, I'm genuinely curious about the direction the series will take. Considering the major plot twists, I'm expecting some significant changes ahead. ()

Looking for Mr. Goodbrain, Part 2 (2017) (S03E13)

English The finale picked up right where the last episode left off, finally making the storyline about Seattle's zombie community engaging for me. Up until this point, I was more into the morgue humor and found the dramatic moments lacking. However, the creators managed to nail the drama in these concluding episodes, making the end of the season genuinely captivating. ()

Season 4 (2018) (S04)

English Season 4 made a better impression on me than the previous one. The main storyline seemed much better written, the individual episodes were funnier, and Ravi managed to make me laugh again, unlike in the previous season. What really annoyed me was that the creators couldn’t avoid the occasional play on emotions. But that’s just me, I just don’t fit CW’s target audience. ()

Are You Ready for Some Zombies? (2018) (S04E01)

English I was pleasantly surprised. It was light-hearted and funny, perfect for some mindless entertainment. Ravi bounced back from last season's slump and was as entertaining as ever. His serum testing scenes were hilarious, though I'm not sure I'd ever try anything scented like lilac with a melon flavor – that combo is just too weird. ()

Blue Bloody (2018) (S04E02)

English The overly emotional ending and yet another breakup between Liv and Major did dampen my enthusiasm a bit, but I decided to overlook it. Liv consumed a hilariously entertaining brain, and Angus’s (un)holy crusade against impending starvation kept things interesting. Overall, it worked well as light entertainment for a relaxing afternoon. ()

Brainless In Seattle, Part 1 (2018) (S04E03)

English This time, I had to lower my rating a bit. The plotline about human smuggling and disappearances was intriguing, but the brain of an incurable romantic and Ravi's fashion show didn't quite hit the mark for me. The police sketch artist saved the day, but I still missed some extra laughs. ()

Brainless in Seattle, Part 2 (2018) (S04E04)

English I had more fun than last time, so I bumped up my rating by a star. Ravi as bait in Operation "Pickles" was a delight, Major under the influence of a wrestler was surprisingly funny, and Blaine on the "honest" brain was absolutely hilarious. ()

Goonstruck (2018) (S04E05)

English Aside from the overly sentimental ending, this was a solid episode. The Canadian hockey player brain was a brilliant choice, and I enjoyed the subplot about the discrimination against a zombie driver. The kidnapping of Sloan Mills added a humorous touch as well. The drawn-out, heart-wrenching finale almost made me drop a star, but then I remembered Liv's hilarious hockey performance and had to give it that fourth star. ()

My Really Fair Lady (2018) (S04E06)

English I had a blast right from the sexual harassment seminar. Ravi on the junkie brain was hilarious, and the action at the docks was well-executed, including the script and casting. ()

Don't Hate the Player, Hate the Brain (2018) (S04E07)

English In the third season, the overarching storyline didn’t really grab me, but this time it’s working. When the creators give Liv an interesting brain to munch on (like in this episode), the humor kicks in, and I’m thoroughly entertained. ()

Chivalry is Dead (2018) (S04E08)

English A delightful episode. Stacey Boss is back! Even if it’s just for a short while, I’m grateful to see one of my favorite characters again. The teamwork between Blaine and Angus was entertaining, and even though the outcome of the money stash raid was predictable, I still had a good time. ()
