Class of 1989, Mike O'Donnell (Zac Efron) is a star on the high school basketball court with a college scout in the stands and a bright future in his grasp. But instead, he decides to throw it all away to share his life with his girlfriend Scarlet and the baby he just learned they are expecting. Almost 20 years later, Mike's (Matthew Perry) glory days are decidedly behind him. His marriage to Scarlet (Leslie Mann) has fallen apart, he has been passed over for a promotion at work, his teenage kids think he is a loser, and he has been reduced to crashing with his high school nerd-turned-techno billionaire best friend Ned (Thomas Lennon). But Mike is given another chance when he is miraculously transformed back to the age of 17. Unfortunately, Mike may look 17 again, but his thirty-something outlook is totally uncool among the class of 2009. and in trying to recapture his best years, Mike could lose the best things that ever happened to him. A pretty enjoyable comedy, where my only gripe was actually the fact that Matthew Perry doesn't appear more, as he couldn't show even a fraction of his comedic talent. Otherwise, there are great women here, and Zac Efron hasn't been one of those actors I actively dislike for some time. Moreover, Thomas Lennon does a great job pulling his weight outside of the main storyline. ()
It's a pretty classic theme, the film has nothing new to offer, it's a solid average. A pretty good cast, Zac Efron isn't as saccharine as in High School Musical, plus a likable Leslie Mann and a hilariously wacky Thomas Lennon. The film impressed me beyond my expectations and therefore a pure 3* (60%). ()
"When you're young, everything feels like the end of the world." When Zac Efron, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Leslie Mann are at the peak of their performance, and the genre mixes a few clichés with a nostalgia as strong as a wave of fandom, it is impossible to resist. "Different" teenage comedies still know how to warm your heart. ()
I felt like I was in High School Musical at the beginning, then ended up just in high school. It wasn't bad. Not that I cracked the screen with laughter, no, but I wasn't bored. One good scene is when the "best friend" has a date. That one kind of amused me. Otherwise, as always Matthew was awesome, I still see Chandler in him, but it was quite fitting here. And then, after the movie, it's interesting to watch the credits for a while, enhanced by the visual aids ;-) ()
Pretty good. Back to the Future inside out, with a hole instead of a DeLorean. It also seems to me that Efron must be somehow related to M. J. Fox, the resemblance is uncanny, or was it just the similar plot? Perry also is nice to see. Otherwise, the good scenes balance out the bad ones, but I had more fun than not, so thumbs up. I was expecting it to be a bigger heap of nonsense. ()
