Right place. Wrong time. Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, sucked into and spat back through time. Way back. Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world - a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost. Sucked alongside him for the adventure are smart-as-a-whip research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist named Will (Danny McBride). Chased by T-Rex and stalked by painfully slow reptiles known as Sleestaks, Marshall, Will and Holly must rely on their only ally - a primate named Chaka - to navigate out of the hybrid dimension. Escape from this routine expedition gone awry and they’re heroes. Get stuck, and they’ll be permanent refugees in the Land of the Lost. (Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)

English I could count the moments I really enjoyed on one hand (the opening and closing talk show, the clever tyrannosaurus, the mosquito scene...), but otherwise this is a weak Ferrell film, with a lot of disgusting (I simply don't like anything with expletives) and a lot of simply awkward jokes. The special effects aren't bad and the film is very nicely colored and overall better than, say, Journey to the Center of the Earth with Brendan Fraser, but that's not high praise. Two and a bit. ()

English I could compare this film to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth and it would clearly win across the board in every way. The visual effects are pretty good (well, except for the lizard people) and the first half of the film isn't lacking in the funny side either. The second half, however, is heavily modernized and riddled with contemporary comedic mannerisms. The running time could have been shorter by twenty minutes. So a pure 2*. ()
