Plots(1)

Succinctly highlighting the tragedy of national division, The DMZ relays the story of two children, a boy and a girl, who find themselves near the Military Demarcation Line searching for loved ones. The girl, Yeonga, meets a boy wandering alone along the DMZ looking for his sister who also happens to be named Yeonga. The two decide to search together and along the way do what they can to survive. In one scene, to cook potatoes, they accidentally light a fire on a landmine and narrowly escape death. In another, they make a game of dividing the Military Demarcation Line into two, imitating real South-North Korea relations. Despite the numerous films based on national division, none deal with this tragic subject quite so sharply or extensively as The DMZ. (Busan International Film Festival)
