Plots(1)

Based on the 'Nurse Matilda' series of books by Christianna Brand, this dark and witty fable stars Emma Thompson as a person of unsettling appearance and magical powers who enters the household of the recently widowed Mr. Brown (Colin Firth) and attempts to tame his seven exceedingly ill-behaved children. The children have managed to drive away 17 previous nannies but as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice that their vile behaviour now leads swiftly and magically to rather startling consequences. English The kids, Colin Firth, and the late-Victorian stylings are oddly more annoying than similar attributes updated in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, yet both Nanny McPhee films are solid family entertainment. ()

English The British have once again produced another great film for the whole family. A well chosen and likeable cast led by Emma Thompson (if I had a nanny with that look and authority would make me obedient as a dog) and Angela Lansbury (it's been many years since she wrote Murder). The visuals are low-key and full of bright colors (I like that). The music is great. In short, another delightful film. ()

English Yet another one of those movies I've been somewhat avoiding, but Christmas turned out to be the perfect time to watch it. Emma Thompson is just fantastic, not only as an actress but also as a screenwriter. You can add to that the other excellent actors, with whom you'll enjoy this fairy-tale film. Entertaining and beautifully colorful, almost kitschy. ()
