Legendary terror titan Peter Cushing stars alongside fellow Hammer heavyweights Oliver Reed and Yvonne Romain in this atmospheric chiller from the famed ‘House of Horror’. When British Naval officer Captain Collier (Patrick Allen) is called to a small coastal village to investigate reports of illegal smuggling, he discovers that the town is being terrorized by ‘marsh phantoms’ - ghostly spectres who appear on dark misty nights striking fear into all who cross their path. English It's no coincidence that Peter Cushing was one of the studio's favored actors and one of the best British actors of his time. He proves it here too. Likewise, Oliver Reed simply has the face for playing complex characters, which might not be entirely the case here, but still. The film is excellently cast, and this only contributes to the overall good impression you will have from it. It's not a big scary spectacle, but it's a well-crafted piece with interesting characters and a story that isn't entirely straightforward. ()
