Biography
Born in 1922, Jonas Mekas is a Lithuanian filmmaker. After being interned in a Nazi work camp, he emigrates to New York where he becomes a leading light in underground film and the "filmed diary". Notable credits include The Brig (1964), which won the Gran Premio della Giuria in Venice, Walden (1969) and Lost, Lost, Lost (1976). In 1962, he co-founds The Film-Makers' Cooperative in order to give wider circulation to American independent and experimental cinema, as well as the Anthology Film Archives, which he still runs.
